Also, if you like to use gem_server to browse all of your generated docs in one place, then take the "api/" directory that the above process generates, move it to the rails- directory with the rest of your gem generated docs, and rename it to "rdoc/". In my case, gem generates docs into /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/doc/.

[...] Ryan Bates at Railscasts is holding a contest too: submit a documentation patch to Rails and on July 27 he’ll pick eight random winners for prizes including a Nintendo DS Lite, iPod Shuffle, Peepcode subscriptions and Pragmatic Programmer books. Railscast #50 will show you how to submit a doc patch. (I recently reported on the Rails community’s push for better documentation.) [...]

Nice summary of the documentation situation. I didnt realize the Documentation Project had gotten off the ground yet. I hope that it can somehow become "official", because the proliferation of Rails doc sites isnt really doing any good. Personally I would prefer all the enhancements to actually occur at api.rubyonrails.org... the value of having one central documentation location is not to be underestimated.
